1066 TBP represents the people in “1066 country” committed to democratic reform, covering the parliamentary constituencies of Hastings & Rye and Bexhill & Battle.

In Britain today we suffer from one of least representative democracies in the western world. Our first past the post voting system regularly returns governments with less than 50% of the popular vote, where millions of votes are effectively chucked in the bin. Our second chamber (the House of Lords) is wholly unelected and unaccountable, giving no legitimacy to the essential role of scrutinising legislation before it becomes law ....and all of this held together by a hotch-potch of rituals and unwritten conventions that mysteriously govern how the system works.

In our own “1066” region we have two parliamentary constituencies that highlight the need for change – the ultra-safe seat of Bexhill & Battle where anyone wearing a blue rosette can get elected MP without much effort, and Hastings & Rye which returned an MP that the majority of voters didn’t want. Both these situations are bad for our democracy and are in need of urgent reform.
